在英语中， 习语(idiom) 是由一个以上的单词组合而成，这些单词在这个组合里面的意思区别于它们单独的意思。比如：I’ve been feeling it in my bones that he’s gonna tell us something. 我一直有种预感他要跟我们说点儿什么。（这里没有提到bone的原意，骨头）

学习习语可以让表达出的语言具有多样化和生动性；同样，习语一般都和文化相关。对于外语学习者而言，外语所承载的文化往往比外语本身更有挑战性，积累一定的习语，可以减少对文化的误解或者增加对文化差异的敏感度。

今天我们就来学习学习和时间(time)有关的一些习语。看看它们究竟表达什么意思呢？

beat the clock: 提前完成任务

e.g. The work went well and we beat the clock, finishing nearly two hours before the deadline.

工作进行地很顺利，我们提前完成了任务。比最后期限提前了约两个小时。

turn back the hands of time: 让时光倒流

e.g. If I had a wish, I would just turn back the hands of time to cherish those moments we are together. 如果我可以许个愿的话，我宁愿时光倒流，珍惜我们相处的分分秒秒。

kill time: 消磨时间

e.g. When on board, I like to kill time by reading detective stories.

乘飞机时，我喜欢读侦探小说来消磨时间。

once in a blue moon: 千载难逢的

e.g. He only comes here once in a blue moon. 他只是偶尔到这里来一次。

behind the times: 过时，落伍

e.g. Her father still uses a typewriter: he is really behind the times.

她爸爸还在用打字机： 他可真是落后了。

time flies: 时光飞逝

e.g. I often complain about how quickly time flies.

我经常抱怨时光飞逝。

wasting time: 浪费时间

e.g. Keep your desk and your files organized to avoid wasting time shuffling through piles of paper.

保持你的桌子和文件有序，以免浪费时间来收拾成堆的文件。

the big time: 第一流的

e.g. Of all the hundreds of professional music groups, very few can hit the big time.

在几百个职业乐团中，称得上一流的真是廖若星辰。
